It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2022 IEEE Phased Array Systems and Technology Symposium. Recent advances and planned developments in phased arrays make this event exciting and timely.
The symposium starts on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 11th with an insightful plenary session including speakers from around the world sharing their progress in phased arrays. Wednesday, October 12th and Thursday, October 13th provide two full days of technical sessions. We have a broad selection of tutorials being offered the morning before (Tuesday, October 11th) and the morning after (Friday, October 14th) the technical presentations. These tutorials will cover topics on phased array basics and recent breakthroughs such as digital and adaptive beam forming, phased array antenna measurements, transmit/receive (T/R) modules, array electronics, 5G arrays, MIMO radar, and modeling of phased arrays. In addition, this symposium will have numerous exhibits from companies that are developing phased array systems and technology.
A Student Paper Contest is being held for selected papers. The Top 3 student paper winners will be announced at the conference banquet and given a certificate as well as a generous monetary award.
The dates of our symposium were chosen to coincide with the peak of New England fall foliage. Come early for the Columbus Day weekend and see the many famous sites in the area including historic Concord & Lexington (known for their battles during the American Revolution), the Boston waterfront and Quincy Market, Whale Watching Tours in the Boston Harbor, Salem (famous for the witch trials) or head north to see the foliage in the beautiful White Mountain National Forest. The venue of this symposium, the Westin Hotel in Waltham, MA, was chosen to enable you to easily access all of these spectacular sites.
We encourage you to make the most of this event by networking with old friends, making new connections, and sharing technology. Together we will continue to advance our progress in phased array systems and technology.
I personally look forward to meeting you at the symposium.
It is an honor to be serving as the Technical Chair for the 2022 IEEE International Symposium on Phased Array Systems and Technology. Much has transpired in the three years since the 2019 symposium; phased array systems continue to be an important and rapidly evolving technology with steady advances motivated by the challenges presented to modern military and opportunities in commercial applications.
This symposium will present the most recent advances in phased array technology and provide a unique opportunity for members of the international community to interact with colleagues in the field of phased array systems and technology. We have more than 150 high-quality papers to be presented over 2½ days starting with the Plenary session on Tuesday afternoon. The papers represent a cross-section of commercial, defense, and scientific applications with both domestic (USA) and international authorship. Unique to this year’s symposium is the option to attend virtually, adding a new dynamic and vitality to the conference by enabling participation where travel cost, time, or health concerns would make in-person attendance prohibitive.
This 2022 event is the 8th IEEE International Symposium on Phased Array Systems and Technology. The inaugural symposium was held in Boston, Massachusetts, USA in 1996, followed by the 2000 symposium in Dana Point, California. Subsequent symposia in 2003, 2010, 2013, 2016 and 2019 were held in Boston, Massachusetts.
I express my gratitude to the members of the Technical Program Committee and the members of the Symposium Organizing Committee in producing a program that provides a wealth of technical information regarding the present and future trends of phased array antenna systems.
